Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actress who is known for her role as the fierce lawyer Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. After her marriage she became Nikki Kodjoe. While growing up living in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. At the Maryland high school competition during her first years of schooling, she won the prize for best actress. In addition to her work as a theater actress, she also worked with The Washington Ballet Company. She earned an acting degree from New York University. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was her debut major role. Films like Blue Streak and Boogie Nights Spark came next. Born in Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria from the age of seven, Contractor was well-versed in world travels and a variety of different cultures from a young age. From the age of seven to nine, the young lady attended boarding schools in London. Her family then moved to Toronto where she lived throughout her early years. At the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school specializing in the arts), Contractor studied both the theatre and dance. When she graduated from high-school with a full tuition scholarship to University of Toronto where she was a theatre student with a dual degree in psychology and Sociology. Contractor was offered the leading part in Pericles following a brief time at the University. She was a part of the audition for it at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and received. The 92 productions she performed received acclaim from Canadian reviewers. The conservatory in Stratford is home to eight males with four females, along with a couple of others for a weeks crash course. Contractor received a guaranteed spot for the following season, and was offered the part of Hermia.
